| Breaking News | | Thursday, July 25th, 2019: Red-Hot Watts Scorches Pilgrims It was a big day with the bat for Paul Watts of the Waverly Hotshots at Hotshots Ballpark as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Oxford 12-11.
To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today -- Bingo! -- 5 hits in 5 tries! But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."
At the end of the game Watts had collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Hotshots had won.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
P. Watts singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off J. Cochran in the 8th.
Thus far in 2019 Watts is batting .439 with 2 home runs, 19 RBIs and 24 runs scored. | | Tuesday, June 18th, 2019: Hooray for Guzmán! Hammers 6 Hits! 6 hits in 6 at-bats. It doesn't happen every day, and when it does, it's exciting. Today Rubén Guzmán of the High Point in Hernando County River Sharks had a sensational 6-6 game against Oxford at Ballpark of High Point in Hernando County. He rifled base hits all over the ballpark in his team's 5-4 shellacking of the Pilgrims.
In the postgame press conference he joked, "Heck, that's a week's worth of hitting for me and I did it all in one day. I guess I can take the rest of the week off...Right, skipper?"
R. Guzmán singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off J. Hart in the 11th.
| | Monday, August 20th, 2018: Pilgrims Get Shutout Win Over High Point in Hernando County "I had everything working for me out there. I used every one of my pitches, hit both sides of the plate really well and felt like I could do whatever I wanted."
With stuff like that, it was easy for Alfonso García of the Pilgrims to handcuff the River Sharks 1-0 and come away with a complete game 5-hit shutout. He recorded 6 strikeouts and no walks in an impressive performance.
