| Breaking News |  | Sunday, August 11th, 2019: Hooray for Smith! Hammers 5 Hits! Eli Smith really sizzled at the plate today. In a game played at Knighthawks Ballpark, the New Haven left fielder blistered the Chesapeake Roughnecks for 5 hits in 5 at-bats to pace his club to a 9-5 victory.
"Smith was too tough to get out today," the Roughnecks skipper said in his postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."
E. Smith singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off A. Cabrera in the 7th.
Thus far this season Smith is hitting .362 with 1 home run, 25 RBIs and 22 runs scored. It happened at Roughnecks Ballpark when Yoshinaka Yamanoue of Chesapeake scattered 5 hits all over the ballpark against the New Haven Knighthawks.
He walloped 5 hits in 5 at-bats in his career-day performance to help the Roughnecks get by the Knighthawks 15-4.
In a talkative and jovial mood after the game, the catcher of the Roughnecks exclaimed, "Whoa, my swing was really, really there today. I made some good, sweet-spot contact and when that happens...good things happen...like 5-5. I could get used to a lot of days like this one."
Y. Yamanoue singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a two-run double in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off L. Middleton in the 8th.
