| Breaking News | | Saturday, June 22nd, 2019: Whitehead Raps Glenns Ferry for 5 Hits If the Glenns Ferry Dreadnoughts know how best to pitch the Lebanon second baseman Brett Whitehead they didn't tip their hand today. Instead Whitehead showed he knew how best to hit them as he easily handled Dreadnoughts pitching, going 5 for 5 and helping the Comets to a 13-5 triumph at Comets Stadium.
He told SION reporters in the postgame interview, "The way I was swinging today, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball."
The Glenns Ferry skipper quipped, "Well, the next time we may just do that...blindfold him...and then pitch him differently, just to be sure."
B. Whitehead singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and doubled in the 8th.
This season Whitehead has hit at a .417 clip with 3 RBIs, 0 home runs and 5 runs scored. | | Monday, August 20th, 2018: Chappell Goes 5-6 After the Arnold 9-8 victory over Glenns Ferry and his 5-hit day left fielder Brandon Chappell told SION beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game is very good...three or four hits even better...5 or more are out of sight...and if it is in pro ball...it is really something special. It will get you in the record books."
The 19-year-old player gained that distinction today at Arnold Fields with a spectacular 5 for 6 game against the Glenns Ferry Dreadnoughts.
The skipper of the Saints spoke glowingly of Chappell, telling SION writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Brandon did that to perfection today."
B. Chappell hit a solo-shot off T. Hsi in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, flied out in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off D. Donovan in the 10th.
Thus far this year Chappell is hitting .404 with no home runs, 8 RBIs and 6 runs scored. | | Saturday, August 11th, 2018: Stewart Gets 5 Hits "It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." That's what Glenns Ferry left fielder Alan Stewart said to SION reporters after his fantastic 5-6 day against the Cherry Hill Mall Jayhawks at Dreadnoughts Stadium. "I got some good counts and used the whole field."
The Dreadnoughts had a good day, too, and won the ballgame 15-5.
A. Stewart flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run triple in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off R. Guerrero in the 9th.
During the 2018 season Stewart has hit .420 with 1 home run and 7 RBIs. He has played in 11 games and scored 11 times. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | SS Jeffery Bailey | torn back muscle | 10 months | Not on DL | | P Jeff Nelson | ruptured ulnar collateral ligament (elbow) | 10 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 25-29, .463 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 6.0 GB | | Record at home | 13-14, .481 PCT | | Record on the road | 12-15, .444 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-3, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 12-8, .600 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 8-10, .444 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 17-19, .472 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in June | 5-8, .385 PCT | | Record in July | 16-14, .533 PCT | | Record in August | 4-7, .364 PCT |
