| Breaking News | | Monday, August 5th, 2019: Week's Best Player Honored by SL1 When it came to hitting the baseball, Rafael Espinosa was in a class by himself in the Sub League 1 this past week. Nobody did it better.
The outstanding right fielder for Needham tagged opposing pitchers for a .581 average and was voted the Player of the Week Award. Included in his stats were 18 hits in 31 at-bats, 0 homers, 7 runs scored and 5 RBIs.
This season Espinosa is hitting at a .341 pace with 2 home runs, 28 RBIs and has scored 27 times. | | Tuesday, July 30th, 2019: Goodman Socks It to Pumas, Cracks 5 Hits It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Ron Goodman -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage at Ballpark of Nolanville and paced the Tortoises to a 12-10 win over the Needham Pumas.
After his dynamite batting performance the Nolanville first baseman told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book.
R. Goodman singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off T. Reyes in the 9th.
Goodman currently has a .350 batting average with 62 hits, 3 homers, 28 RBIs, 24 runs scored and a .386 OBP. | | Wednesday, July 17th, 2019: Morris Records Shutout Against Hillbillies "Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.
Well, good pitching also beats bad batting.
In his postgame interview the Webster City manager said, "Sloan Morris made us look real bad today. He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."
Morris had 5 strikeouts, 1 walk and allowed only 6 hits as the Needham Pumas whitewashed the Webster City Hillbillies 4-0.
In 2019 Morris has worked 48.1 innings with 32 strikeouts en route to a 2-1 record and 2.05 ERA. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Otte Lucas | torn bicep muscle | 3 days | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 27-27, .500 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 3.5 GB | | Record at home | 12-15, .444 PCT | | Record on the road | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 4-1, .800 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 8-7, .533 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 11-12, .478 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 16-15, .516 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in June | 4-9, .308 PCT | | Record in July | 17-13, .567 PCT | | Record in August | 6-5, .545 PCT |
