| Breaking News | | Tuesday, July 30th, 2019: Goodman Socks It to Pumas, Cracks 5 Hits It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Ron Goodman -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage at Ballpark of Nolanville and paced the Tortoises to a 12-10 win over the Needham Pumas.
After his dynamite batting performance the Nolanville first baseman told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book.
R. Goodman singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off T. Reyes in the 9th.
Goodman currently has a .350 batting average with 62 hits, 3 homers, 28 RBIs, 24 runs scored and a .386 OBP. | | Monday, July 15th, 2019: Hot Hitter Wins SL1 Award With some great hand-eye coordination and a sweet, compact swing, Nolanville Tortoises right fielder Edward Nelson took the Sub League 1 by storm this past week to take the latest Player of the Week honors.
"The ball was looking like a beach ball all week," a happy Nelson said to SION reporters. "When it's that big, it doesn't matter where they throw it -- I can hit it anywhere."
The 19-year-old right fielder hit .650 (13-20) last week with 1 home run, 8 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
So far this season, Nelson has recorded a .579 batting average with 22 hits, 1 home run, 9 RBIs, 8 runs scored and a .609 OBP. | | Thursday, June 20th, 2019: High-5s for Martínez! Goes 5-5! "It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said Lorenzo Martínez after his 5-hit performance against the Tortoises. "No offense meant to Nolanville, but I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Speeders Ballpark!"
The Mountain Iron left fielder had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 5 at-bats and pacing his club to a 17-2 victory.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Lorenzo worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Martínez said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
L. Martínez walked in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off S. Flores in the 8th.
