| Breaking News | | Saturday, August 10th, 2019: Gonzáles Tosses Shutout Against Pittsburgh Donato Gonzáles was downright nasty in pitching a 7-0 shutout against Pittsburgh. His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking and the Spikers were swinging and looking bad. In the solid 3-hit shutout the Altitude hurler chalked up 4 strikeouts and no walks in a strong outing.
"As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes."
This season Gonzáles has compiled a 4-5 mark with a 4.07 ERA. | | Thursday, August 8th, 2019: Guzmán On Fire! 5-5 for Pittsburgh! "It was like I was hitting little league pitching again," said Rubén Guzmán after his 5-hit performanace against the Altitude. "No offense meant to Corpus Christi, but I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Spikers Stadium! I'm just not too happy that we lost 9-6"
The Pittsburgh first baseman had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Rubén worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Guzmán said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it. It sure did work today."
R. Guzmán singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
This season Guzmán is batting at a .375 clip with no home runs and 5 RBIs. | | Sunday, August 4th, 2019: Patton Career Ended by Major Injury From the moment it happened, it was clear that Eddie Patton's injury was serious. The Altitude starting pitcher suffered a torn rotator cuff muscle while throwing a pitch. For safety's sake, Patton was carted off the field in a stretcher. The initial diagnosis was bad and the follow-up assessment at the hospital was even more grim: Patton's career is over.
In 5 starts this season Patton has crafted a 1-1 record with a 4.08 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 25-29, .463 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 4.0 GB | | Record at home | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record on the road | 10-17, .370 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-1, .667 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 6-5, .545 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 6-9, .400 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 19-20, .487 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in June | 6-7, .462 PCT | | Record in July | 15-15, .500 PCT | | Record in August | 4-7, .364 PCT |
