How often does that happen? Not very often, especially considering that a cycle is a microcosm of what makes a complete hitter -- he must possess power (homer), speed (triple) and make regular contact (four hits). That doesn't mean that everyone that hits for the cycle is a complete hitter, except perhaps during that particular game.
Well, Brian Calhoun is a complete hitter -- at least for one ballgame. Today at Blue Devils Ballpark he hit for the cycle to lead Yonkers Blue Devils to a 11-2 win over the Annetta Oysters. All told in the game Calhoun delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats with 4 runs batted in and 3 runs scored.
He admitted to the press in the postgame interview, "Actually the first three hits were sort of lucky. But I knew what I needed to complete the cycle. And you know, I got exactly what I wanted. Lotta luck in hitting for the cycle."
