| Breaking News | | Monday, September 2nd, 2019: Ortega: Big Hit in the Sub League 1! Virginia Beach's Emílio Ortega would not be denied the Sub League 1 Player of the Week Award for this past week. His consistent stroke, which produced 12 hits in 25 at-bats and a .480 average, made him the clear favorite to win the honor.
"You just go out there and do what you have to do," said Ortega, "When I'm up, I try to focus and block everything else out of my mind...and have a good at-bat. I'm up there to get a hit or advance a runner, not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment. I hope I can win this award every week."
He also tallied 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
Ortega is currently batting .279 with 37 home runs and 113 RBIs. | | Sunday, September 1st, 2019: Juan Nevárez Named SL1 Rookie of Month Juan Nevárez certainly made his presence felt in the Sub League 1 in August. We'll get the chance to find out in the next 1-2 weeks as the outstanding Virginia Beach catcher attempts to shrug off a scratched cornea he sustained colliding with a player at a base against the San Francisco Rodents. Whether the management lets him play or handles him with kid gloves will depend mostly on how Jennings feels on a day-to-day basis. But there's little doubt that the Virginia Beach Turmoil will be happy for the talented player to return at full strength as soon as possible.
Jennings on the season is hitting .316 with 19 home runs. His stats include 70 RBIs and 67 runs scored. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | 2B Butch Maynard | torn rib cage muscle | 7 weeks | 49 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 76-66, .535 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 4.0 GB | | Record at home | 39-35, .527 PCT | | Record on the road | 37-31, .544 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-7, .462 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 21-17, .553 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 20-9, .690 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 56-57, .496 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 16-12, .571 PCT | | Record in May | 13-14, .481 PCT | | Record in June | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in July | 12-13, .480 PCT | | Record in August | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record in September | 3-4, .429 PCT |
