| Breaking News | | Saturday, August 24th, 2019: Smith on Fire, 5-6 Against Saint Petersburg If the Saint Petersburg Skeletons know how best to pitch the Toledo left fielder Nathan Smith they didn't tip their hand today. Instead Smith showed he knew how best to hit them as he easily handled Skeletons pitching, going 5 for 6 and helping the Skychiefs to a 13-1 triumph at Skychiefs Ballpark.
He told SION reporters in the postgame interview, "The way I was swinging today, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball."
The Saint Petersburg skipper quipped, "Well, the next time we may just do that...blindfold him...and then pitch him differently, just to be sure."
N. Smith grounded out in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and doubled in the 9th.
Smith is batting .260 this year with 4 home runs, 55 RBIs and 69 runs scored. He has 112 hits in 431 at-bats. | | Saturday, August 17th, 2019: Bakersfield Whitewashes Saint Petersburg All went well for John Reeves of the Bakersfield Hazards as he pitched his team to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Saint Petersburg Skeletons, limiting them to 3 hits while ringing up 5 strikeouts and surrendering 1 walk.
In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Reeves.
His manager described him this way: "He's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy. He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
The Saint Petersburg skipper said, "He doesn't give you anything twice. It's a guessing game with him and today my club was always guessing wrong."
This season Reeves has registered 2 wins and 2 losses in 6 starts with a 4.83 ERA. | | Sunday, July 14th, 2019: Saint Petersburg Bats Silenced by Otero The Skeletons manager was philosophical after his team was shut out by the Tacoma Bulldozers 9-0.
"It was just one of those games, shake it off and do better next time," he said.
Alonso Otero blanked them on 3 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs. They were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Otero said.
"I set them up pretty good, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
In 18 starts this year Otero has recorded a 3-6 record and a 5.40 ERA. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | RF Alex Grant | fractured cheekbone | 6 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 64-56, .533 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 32-28, .533 PCT | | Record on the road | 32-28, .533 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-6, .250 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 15-19, .441 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 20-16, .556 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 44-40, .524 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 11-12, .478 PCT | | Record in May | 16-10, .615 PCT | | Record in June | 12-17, .414 PCT | | Record in July | 16-10, .615 PCT | | Record in August | 9-7, .563 PCT |
