At his age, not many pitchers can still get the job done. But Spike Jackson for Mesa can still throw the ball, and do it well. The 38-year-old reliever was selected the Sub League 1 Pitcher of the Month for August earlier today -- not only satisfying himself, but silencing the critics who said, "The old man's just lost too much to compete at this level anymore."
The old man definitely still has it, making 13 relief appearances and throwing 15 innings as he stacked up 8 saves, 13 strikeouts and a fine 1.20 ERA and 2-1 mark.
Jackson has 19 saves with a 3-7 season record and a 3.60 ERA. He also has 38 relief appearances, thrown 40 innings and struck out 40.

 | Friday, August 23rd, 2019: Ledbetter Belts Bunch of Base Hits
Jim Ledbetter was on fire today and sparked his club to a 5-2 victory over the Thunderjets. The Mesa left fielder was a tough out and went 5 for 5 against Sacramento in a fine hitting display.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody...and some days they fall in."
J. Ledbetter doubled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, doubled in the 6th and hit a two-run triple in the 8th.
For the season, Ledbetter is hitting at a .233 clip with 2 home runs, 38 RBIs and has scored 40 runs. He has 73 hits, 18 walks and a .274 on-base percentage.

 | Friday, August 23rd, 2019: Rail Cats Third Baseman Out
Mesa fans held their breath as Andrew O'Neill left yesterday's Thunderjets-Rail Cats contest with an injury. After the game, the team's medical staff said that the 29-year-old third baseman had suffered a strained achilles tendon while running the bases. It's estimated that he will be out 3 weeks.
Currently O'Neill has 3 home runs and a .256 batting average.
